Paul has a Master Degress in molecular Biotechnology from the University of Heidelberg. During his undergrad studies he focused on epigenetic regulation in Cancer. He then obtained a PhD in Bioinformatics from the University of Cambridge, where he researched the recovery of metagenomic assembled genomes for microbial eukaryotes in the group of Rob Finn at the EMBL-EBI.  Focusing on computational biology he worked as bioinformatics developer at ENPICOM, where he developed scalable immune repertoire analysis workflows for bulk and single-cell dataset.

Currently Paul is a PostDoc in the Pröbstel Lab at the University Hospital Basel where is investigates the connection of the human gut and immune system in the context of Multiple Sclerosis.
